How to Build a Dome in Minecraft

  1. 01

    Pick an odd diameter

    Odd sizes (15, 21, 31…) give your dome a single center block and a clean apex. The size chart below shows exact block counts.

    Generate the dome blueprint

    The tool presets shape = dome. Each layer of your dome gets its own 2D plan, from the wide equator to the cap.

  3. 03

    Start at the widest layer

    Domes have an open base. Place the bottom (widest) ring first — it defines the silhouette. Check it from a distance before stacking.

  4. 04

    Stack upward, row by row

    Switch layers with the layer picker. Use Build Along for exact X/Z coordinates per row and mark rows done — progress saves in your browser.

  5. 05

    Cap it and inspect in 3D

    The last layer is a single block (or a 2×2 cap for even sizes). Drag the 3D preview to verify the curve before you commit materials.

How many blocks do I need for a Minecraft dome?

It depends on diameter and mode. A hollow dome at diameter 21 uses 569 blocks; filled uses 2,647. At diameter 31: 1,233 hollow / 8,132 filled. The materials card always shows the exact count plus stacks of 64.

Does the dome have a floor or base?

No — domes are open at the bottom by design, so you can walk inside and add your own floor. The bottom layer is the widest ring of the structure.

Hollow or filled dome — which should I pick?

Hollow for roofs and buildings you will enter (far fewer blocks). Filled for solid terrain blobs or when you plan to carve the interior yourself.

What is the biggest dome I can generate?

The 2D blueprints work up to diameter 512. The interactive 3D preview supports domes up to 64 blocks wide.

Is this a dome calculator with layer-by-layer plans?

Does it work for Minecraft Bedrock? Can I dome an Ocean Monument?

Bedrock and Java use identical block placement, so the blueprint works in both. For an Ocean Monument build (the monument is 58 blocks wide), generate a dome one or two sizes larger — 59 or 61 — so the rim clears the structure before you start draining.
