Minecraft Sphere Generator: Build Perfect Spheres Layer by Layer

How to use a Minecraft sphere generator to build hollow or filled spheres and domes — layer-by-layer plans, real block counts, and a 3D preview to check your work.

A Minecraft sphere is just a stack of circles — but each layer has a different diameter, and getting any layer wrong leaves a visible ridge. A sphere generator computes every layer for you. This guide covers the layer-by-layer method, hollow vs filled spheres, and exact material counts.

Circles vs spheres vs domes

  • Circle: a single flat ring or disc.
  • Sphere: a full ball — layers grow from the bottom to the equator, then shrink to the top.
  • Dome: the upper half of a sphere with an open base — the classic roof shape.

All three are generated from the same block-center rule in our MC Circle Generator, so the 2D plans and 3D preview always agree.

Hollow or filled?

  • Hollow (outline) gives you just the shell — surface blocks only. Perfect for planet builds, balloons and any sphere you'll walk inside. A hollow diameter-21 sphere is only 1,082 blocks; the layers at top and bottom are capped so the shell closes cleanly.
  • Filled places every block: 4,945 blocks at diameter 21. Use it for terrain blobs, or when the sphere will be mined out later.

The layer-by-layer method

  1. Generate: choose Sphere or Dome, enter your diameter.
  2. Start at the bottom layer (Layer 1). It's a small circle — place it and mark your center.
  3. Work upward: switch layers with the layer picker. Each layer shows its own 2D blueprint with the same center alignment.
  4. Use Build Along: tap a row, place the blocks at the shown X/Z coordinates, mark it done. Progress persists per layer.
  5. Check with the 3D preview: drag to rotate the voxel model. Your current layer is highlighted cyan, so you can see exactly where you are in the stack.

Domes: start at the widest layer

Domes open at the bottom, so begin at the equator (the widest layer) and work upward. The open base means no floor blocks — walk in and add your own floor later.

Tips from builders

  • Scaffold the equator: the widest layer defines the silhouette. Double-check it from a distance before stacking further.
  • Hollow first, fill later: for big spheres, build the shell, verify the shape, then decide whether the interior needs filling.
  • Stacks matter: 15,515 blocks for a filled d=31 sphere is 242 stacks + 27. Bring shulker boxes.

FAQ

Are the 2D plans and 3D preview the same blocks? Yes — both render from the same generated layer data.

How big can I go? 2D blueprints work up to diameter 512. The interactive 3D preview supports up to 64 blocks wide, which covers almost any survival-scale build.

Can I share my sphere settings? Use "Copy build link" — the URL encodes shape, diameter and style. Anyone opening it lands on your exact blueprint.
