How to Build a Sphere in Minecraft

Pick your diameter
Odd diameters give a single center block and symmetric poles. Check the size chart below for exact block counts before you start mining.

Generate the sphere blueprint
The tool presets shape = sphere. Every layer from the bottom pole to the top pole gets its own 2D plan.

Build from the bottom up
Layer 1 is a tiny circle at the bottom pole. Layers grow toward the equator — the widest middle layer — then shrink to the top.

Sphere vs Dome

How many blocks do I need for a Minecraft sphere?
A hollow sphere at diameter 21 uses 1,082 blocks; filled uses 4,945. At diameter 31: 2,382 hollow / 15,515 filled (242 stacks + 27). The generator shows exact counts for any size.
Hollow or filled sphere — which should I pick?
Hollow for anything you will walk inside — it is the surface shell only and dramatically cheaper. Filled for solid orbs or terrain work.
Do the 2D plans and the 3D preview show the same blocks?
Yes. Both render from the same generated layer data, so what you inspect in 3D is exactly what you place in 2D.
What is the biggest sphere I can generate?
2D blueprints work up to diameter 512 — a 134-million-block theoretical solid. The 3D preview supports up to 64 blocks wide, which covers realistic survival builds.
Is this a layer-by-layer sphere generator with 3D preview?
Yes — that is the core workflow. Every sphere is decomposed into horizontal layers, each with its own 2D plan and row-by-row coordinates. The rotatable 3D voxel preview shows your current layer highlighted against the full model, so you always know where you are in the stack.
Does it work for Minecraft Bedrock? Can I use stairs and slabs?
Bedrock and Java place blocks identically, so the blueprint works in both. For a smoother look, builders often replace edge blocks with stairs and slabs along the sphere surface — generate the hollow shell here, then swap edge blocks as you go.
Can I export a sphere to Litematica or a schematic file?
Not directly yet. Today you can download any layer as a PNG or share a build link; schematic/Litematica export is on the roadmap. Many builders keep the layer PNGs open on a second monitor while building.
Can I generate a sphere with commands or WorldEdit instead?
If cheats are enabled, WorldEdit's //sphere (or //hsphere for hollow) creates one instantly, and Bedrock players use /fill command chains. This generator is for the opposite case: survival-friendly building where you place blocks yourself and want a reliable layer-by-layer plan with exact block counts.
